I wouldn’t call my life particularly adventurous.
On the contrary, I followed a steady, traditional path. One step at a time: I graduated, started working, got married, and became a mother of three.
But take a closer look, and it’s not as ordinary as it first seems. Lean in, and it begins to tell another story.
So far, I’ve moved 22 times — half of those as an adult — and lived in five different countries. Over more than two decades together, my husband and I have turned six places into homes. After countless boxes and screwdrivers, we’re still paddling the same boat, side by side.
And no, we’re not diplomats, aid workers, or international consultants. We don’t work for the UN, we’re not chasing a band on tour, and it isn’t witness protection either. Our story involves no code names or encrypted messages — we’re an ordinary couple: one engineer and one economist. My husband has been with the same company for over 20 years, and I’m twelve years into mine.
So what makes it interesting?
Why is it still worth telling?
Bear with me — I’ll begin to unravel it in the next post. Bring your favourite tea. Or a warm, bold cup of coffee.
Until then,
Anna, the Lantern Keeper
